Dialogue with Matteo Macor, journalist of La Repubblica and correspondent of La7 Propaganda Live.

In the occasion of the review “Photobooks | Dialogues on books and images‘” curated by Giulia Viale, Davide Monteleone will present the book “Sinomocene” at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa together with Matteo Macor.

Photobooks | Dialogues on books and images is at its 2nd edition, with the desire to propose a series of book presentations dedicated to contemporary themes on which to reflect and to understand the importance of photography on the current imagination.

Sinomocene (Artphilein, 2022) is a “data-driven” project that is inspired by the documentation of the Chinese initiative named “Belt and Road” or “New Silk Road” to investigate more extensively the issues of new forms of colonialism, globalization and the relationship between powers and individuals. It is a research begun in 2014 and completed in 2021, in which the artist investigates the movements of large capitals linked to geopolitical strategies at both global and local levels, in the desire to make visible a vast social pyramid, where the huge Chinese financial investment is at its peak and millions of individuals around the world form the basis.

Sinomocene is also an attempt to go beyond the possible visual representation of seemingly invisible or “non-photographical” issues of our time, transforming data into visual art.
